Artist è qualcuno che dipinge, disegna o scolpisce, sia per lavoro che per passione; in riferimento a uno scrittore o a un interprete, come un attore, un musicista o un ballerino, artist viene usato meno frequentemente. Artiste, invece, è un intrattenitore professionista: a circus artiste, un artista circense.
